Arts Count

As a school leader it is important to think about how the arts supports your students. All NYC DOE schools are required to meet the minimum NYS Education requirements in the arts at each level Pre-K to 12. Every year, school leaders are required to complete the Annual Arts Survey which measures a school’s accountability and compliance as it relates to arts education.

It provides concrete resources that help to devise school-level solutions as well as tools to support the development of a robust arts education program.

Blueprints For Teaching and Learning in the Arts

The Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts defines a course of excellence in arts education that begins in early childhood and follows students up through the grades to a commencement level of achievement in dance, music, theater and visual arts. It provides a standards-based rigorous approach to teaching the arts. It gives New York City’s students the opportunity to delve deeply into these subjects while giving teachers the latitude to create an instructional program that demonstrates student learning over time and in varied dimensions.
