It is with great excitement that we are able to provide teachers of the arts support around teacher effectiveness. Arts teachers throughout New York City have the opportunity to enhance their craft via a new line of targeted support that includes face-to-face workshops and an innovative social learning platform.

The teacher effectiveness professional learning community is a shared endeavor amongst the arts education community. Through face-to-face professional learning sessions and our interactive forum members will have the opportunity to interact, discuss, share and learn best practices.
As a visual arts coach I have the opportunity to lead relevant sessions in the Bronx and Manhattan around teacher effectiveness. These sessions aim to provide fellow visual arts teachers with the language to articulate their teaching practices.

Art teachers often find themselves receiving minimal ongoing support around teacher effectiveness. Our learning platform aims to provide access to resources and access to like-colleagues throughout New York City in order to reach new teaching heights. I am excited to provide content-specific support to visual arts teachers and be part of a team that is committed to supporting the arts teaching community.

It is a privilege to work with young student-artists and with art educators. Art education encourages students and teachers to formulate authentic and individual opinions and ideas about our world. As a partner in this project, I am excited to provide relevant support to the Queens visual arts teachers, to target support around teacher effectiveness and to witness the growth of the virtual platform.

I am excited about the StarTchr. Arts teachers will have the opportunity engage in a virtual forum to connect, create, and discuss ideas. As a seasoned theater teacher I see the value of this work. I’ve facilitated professional development on theater education and now I have the opportunity to work with colleagues to provide targeted support around teacher effectiveness in the arts.

When professional learning days were approaching, I couldn’t wait to see all the teachers in one space. Now, we don’t have to wait to be inspired; We ARE connected with StarTCHR. I look forward to facilitating teachers to recognize their effectiveness, and communicating it with conviction.  Theatre is a collaborative art form. I can’t wait to get to work.

Startchr is a direct link to other theatre teachers. I know I do my best work when I share ideas, strategies, & best practices with others. As Austin Kleon ("Steal Like an Artist”) says, “The more good ideas you collect, the more you can choose from to be influenced by.” I look forward to the opportunity to "steal" from each & every one of you.

Startchr is a great platform for NYC teachers to come together and share ideas.  We work in an environment where collaboration is valued, but difficult to achieve.  I encourage you to use StarTchr as the place where we finally get to learn and share with each other, to support each other, and to create a more connected NYC Arts Teacher community.

In our cultural capital of the world, most of our arts teachers work in isolation in their respective schools. Giving our artist/teachers the opportunity to make professional connections with each other will nourish our own artistic selves, invigorate our arts programs, and enrich our students' arts learning.

    Paul Licciardi

I believe the role as arts educators is to cultivate our students’ awareness and appreciation of the arts. With our city's virtual arts initiative platform, we will be able to connect, collaborate and share ideas to help make us become even better teachers. It is a privilege to facilitate workshops for likeminded colleagues who want to enhance their skills.

The Arts Office-initiated teacher effectiveness series substantiates our value and unique practice as arts teachers. We can seize this opportunity to develop and engage with peers to share best practices as well as utilize the social learning platform to end our isolation as arts educators in schools. I’m grateful to engage with everyone in this process, and know I’ll develop my professional best as an arts educator.

StarTCHR and the professional learning opportunities provide NYC dance teachers the chance to work together to deepen their interaction with The Danielson Framework for Teaching.  Together we can explore what it looks like in an arts context and how it can support effective arts education.  I am honored to be a part of this important work.

Renowned dance author Margaret H'Doubler advised to, "Teach dance as an experience that contributes to a philosophy and scheme of living." H'Doubler used ‘scheme’ to imply a clever plan of action. The arts teacher effectiveness project aims to fortify arts educators’ personal teaching practice and formulate an artistic and pedagogic dialogue between arts colleagues, and between artists and administrators. I am honored to lead my Manhattan Dance Educator peers in this work.
